This book explores the relationship between agriculture, the cycle of the sun, and the resulting beliefs of our ancestors. It documents how our ancestors, after becoming reliant on farming, began to track the cycle of the sun. That they began to see the sun as a god, since its cycle had such a life or death effect on their lives. Thus they began to create stories that mythologised the sun’s movements such as the myths of Baal – the lightning god. This eventually led to the birth of modern religion. The book also explains the logic of human sacrifice, and how contrary to modern thinking it was not based on sadism but rather desperation and the belief that they were doing something that would save the world. It also describes the significance of Abraham, and how his switch from child sacrifice to animal sacrifice eventually birthed modern religion.
